AHS Premium & The NaStA Performance Award Schemes
The Arab Horse Society operates a Premium Scheme in furtherance of one of its specific aims of breed improvement and to encourage the breeding of horses which are not only beautiful, but can also perform.
Stallions qualify as Premium Stallions either by performance testing with the National Stallion Association where they are required to do a Novice dressage test, complete a course of show jumps and go round a cross-country course, as well as being assessed for type, conformation and temperament. After stallions have reached 12 years of age they can also qualify through their offspring.

The National Stallion Association (NaStA) was formed in 1981 to maintain and improve stallion approval standards when Ministry of Agriculture Stallion Licensing was abolished by repealing parts of the 1958 Horse Breeding Act.
NaStA represents over 20 stud-books, mostly registering pure-breds. The Association sets a minimum standard of stallion vetting to which all its member societies adhere, and since 1991 has organised a Stallion Performance Testing system open to all breeds.
